Workshops Completed

The Chorale held singing workshops open to the public on November 4th and 25th 2023. With a few new faces seen, we now have one new soprano member.

The workshop was made possible through grants received from The Australian Government in partnership with the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal and a Delburn Wind Farm Community Development Grant.

Current Program for 2023 (second half of year)

The Latrobe Chorale currently has limited numbers of members so we are working on simple program that we can perform at some small venues, such as at Churches and Elderly Citizens Centres.  Rehearsals run from 7:30-9:30 pm on Tuesday evenings in Morwell.

Workshop with Andrew Wailes was a great success:

The Latrobe Chorale recently ran a free workshop “Find Your Voice” facilitated by the renowned Andrew Wails on March 4, 2023.  Andrew Wailes is a well-known choral conductor, chorus master, workshop leader, professional singer and adjudicator (andrewwailes.com.au). He is one of the longest-serving conductors of Australia’s oldest surviving Not for Profit Performing Arts Organisation, the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra. The program covered vocal technique and our current repertoire, including the buoyant and compelling “Te Deum” by Sir Karl Jenkins, one of the most widely performed living composers in the world.

The workshop was made possible through grants received from The Australian Government in partnership with the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal and a Delburn Wind Farm Community Development Grant.

First Half Year Program 2023

The program for 2023 will include music from the living composer Karl Jenkins, and we will begin rehearsals and workshops with his lively 15 minute work called Te Deum (begins at track 10 in the YouTube link).  Also, for this term we are learning Cherubini’s Requiem No. 1 in C minor. Our Musical Director is Joel Dickason.

This year’s program is made possible with the assistance of grants.  We have received grant funding from the Australian Government in partnership with the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal, and we have also been funded by a Delburn Wind Farm Community Development Grant.

The Latrobe Chorale sang at the opening celebration for the new Gippsland Performing Arts Centre on March 3, 2022:

With the building just completed, and COVID restrictions still in place, it was an honour and a great thrill for members of the choir to see the new venue from the stage when we were invited to sing as part of the opening celebration.

Our March 2022 concerts went well:

On the weekend of March 26 and 27 2022 The Latrobe Chorale performed Fauré’s Requiem for audiences in Traralgon and Warragul. The first half of the concert began with Britten’s Julbilate Deo, and included short works by Bruckner, Holland, Gjeilo, Mendelssohn, Mozart, and Vaughan Williams.

The Choir was conducted by Simon Loveless and accompanied by Lisa Fraser. Bruckner’s Locus Iste and Gjeilo’s Ubi Caritas were sung unaccompanied.
