About Us

We meet every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm until 10.pm at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church hall, Church St, Morwell. New members most welcome.

The Latrobe Chorale Inc. was originally formed in 1985 for the specific purpose of performing Handel's Oratorio "The Messiah", which was presented in 1986, 1987 and 1989.

The group has more recently established itself as a continuing choir of approximately 30 -40 voices that will present various smaller sacred works, but will allow for expansion into a larger "occasional choir" to perform the major works.

The Latrobe Chorale has performed a range of works including Mendelsohn's Elijah, Britten's Ceremony of Candles and  Gilbert and Sullivan's concert version of Trial by Jury.  Carl Orff's Carmina Burana featured in 2003 in collaboration with the West Gippsland Chorale, Melbourne conductor Peter Bandy and members of the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic and Melbourne Youth Orchestra Percussionists.

 Mary

The current choir director is Mrs Mary Mirtschin.

Mary first appeared on stage in 1987 with the Latrobe Light Opera Society singing many of the lead roles in Gilbert and Sullivan productions. She has sung with the Gippsland Chamber Opera performing the title role in Puccini's Suor Angelica. She is a feature vocalist with the City of Traralgon Band. Mary was both a chorister and soloist with the Melbourne Philharmonic Choir and a chorus member of Opera Australia for the 1999 Melbourne season.

Mary sings regularly as a chorister and soloist with The Latrobe Chorale and relishes her role as musical director.
