Newsletter Feb 10
Newsletter 2.
28th Feb 2010
Hello fellow chorale members,
- The choir will be resuming on Tuesday 9th March at 7.30 at St Andrew’s Church (same place as usual) . I will get a calendar organized when we confirm dates, so that you will know in advance what dates we are or are not practicing.
- I (Anne) will be accompanying this year, unless someone else turns up. I am happy to hand over the role, or to share the role if someone else is interested, but, so that we can actually make a start, I will start. At the end of the year, I will be ‘retiring’ from the ‘accompanying’ role and the ‘secretary’ role.
- As you have been told, Mary is having 6 months break. She will be returning in June 2010, meanwhile, Ian will be out front, ‘bashing’ notes and conducting.
- We will start the year learning Hayden’s Donna Nobis Pacem and Bach’s Sleep Well from St John’s Passion. These are both in the Oratorio book and as such, no purchase is required from members. We will also ‘have a bash’ at Come Gentle Spring to get the voices going. We have done that before, so very little learning should be necessary, perhaps a brush up.
- We need to drum up some new members, particularly younger members to keep the chorale going. Any ideas for publicity , recruitment, performance…. Please pass them along to your committee. Just because you suggest something, doesn’t mean you have to do all the work to follow through, so don’t be afraid to suggest things.
- The choir needs some input from members to decide on direction. We need musical suggestions. Do you only want to perform sacred works? Opera? Other classical? More popular choral work? The committee would like to hear your views…. By email, mail, phone, suggestion at practice, you don’t have to put your name to it. I realize that no one wants to dob themselves in for extra work….
- As a result of a financial good year last year, membership has been reduced to $30.00 per year. (til 07/2010) It would be appreciated if membership could be paid (to Martin) within the first few months if possible. Unpaid members can not be permitted to perform due to liability/insurance reasons.
A personal thank you to those members who took the time to confirm or change their contact details with me. It helps a lot to know whether things are getting through or not. Those people with email will, in future, receive all notices by email (unless there is something that requires snail mail). I will request a read receipt , so please click the OK box, if you get a read receipt notification.
Those people with snail mail only (not many) will still receive letters. Any newsletter type things will also be posted on the website. If you feel you’re missing something, please check there.
